Cast off settles 1st Christmas Match
Well what a day!
Sixteen hardy souls took part in the inaugural Thames Anglers Conservancy 'Christmas Cup' including four juniors, it started as a fishing match and ended up more like It's a Knockout.
The weather has been very cold for sometime so expectations were not high so the turn out was very worthy and we thank you all.
The Match was a walk off with the draw at around 8am for a 9am start. Anglers set up from the downstream end of Desborough cut to Walton Bridge and beyond. We had been in contact with the local rowing and canoe clubs so they were aware of the event and are very grateful for the understanding on the day.
Despite the range of experience and styles on display, each competitor sadly finished with a dry net but this was not for any lack of effort or endeavour. A few bites were had but nothing caught, very tough going.
As it was our first Christmas cup, it had to be decided, so a choice was made to have a casting competition which turned out to be the best part of the day.
A bucket was placed in a strategic position and each member had a go getting close or into it. After each cast the distance away was measured. A big thank you to the club officials who trustingly provided the rod and reel.
The cast off…
Could come down to millimeters…..
The result was very close with two juniors members closest until John Hanaran got the hole in one and cast direct into the bucket,
Final result
1st John Hanrahan – in the bucket
2nd Frank Fisher – 0 (next to the bucket)
3rd Simon Brown – 10 centimeters away
In the end a fine day was had by all who turned up, we are looking forward to next year already
